Whether or not we agree with some of our national policies, we all should agree these men and women deserve our full support. Anything that we can do as individuals to show them we care, especially at this time of year, that they are not forgotten by us. In this spirit, the Couple’s Club of the Mad River Valley is sponsoring Operation Vermont Cares, a program to ship Care Packages to our troops deployed. Right at this time, Vermont has hundreds of its own citizens, National Guard personnel, army, navy, airforce, and Marines, deployed to the Middle East. The bulk of them are in Afghanistan setting up a military academy for the new Afghan Army. Others are in the other countries that you hear about in the news all the time, and some in countries that are not. If these soldiers and airmen are standing next to a warming fire, it is for a different reason we are at this time of year. The concept of Operation Vermont Cares is to solicit bulk goods from local companies and funds from individuals. With the moneys received, the Couple’s Club will buy bulk packages of needed items for our troops. Volunteers then meet to break down the bulk goods and repackage them into Care Packages that will be shipped to the Middle East Theater of Operations, or anywhere a Vermonter is serving. Sign your Vermonter up! The sincere intent is to get a Care Package into the hands of every National Guard person, army, navy, airforce or Marine service person that has deployed from Vermont. The Couple’s Club needs your help. If you are a business that can make a gift of bulk goods, that is great. If not, the club is asking for monetary donations so that bulk items can be purchased. All gifts are tax deductible. If you are an individual, your monetary donations would be appreciated. $25 will send one Care Package to one of our soldiers. Also, we need volunteers to do the break down, repack and wrap the Care Packages. Fred R. Messer |

Support Vermont's National Guard and troops serving overseas. Based in the Mad River Valley, Operation Vermont Cares creates care packages for our service men and women. Vermont has citizen soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines serving in theaters around the world... now, finally, a Vermont family can send their support and friendship to them. It is no longer allowed to ship to "any service member," but we can send a Vermont Care package directly to someone serving overseas... so sign up your Vermonter: Sign a Service Member Up! |
